THE HERETIC was probably the quickest piece of work I've written. At somewhere around 22,000 words, it is not an incredibly long book, but nonetheless, as a writer who tends to edit carefully as I go, thus slowing down the story-development side of things somewhat, I got this thing down in about two months.
And I'm pretty damn chuffed with that.
THE HERETIC is an alternate-reality sci-fi political story, which explores a future British society (30 years from now) following the murder of David Cameron during his election campaign in 2015.
Does anyone remember this news clip..?
Okay...well, this is where the story starts. But in the alternate reality I have created, things don't pan out quite they way they did in our reality.
And so begins the exploration of a future society plunged into even worse levels of poverty, unfairness and inequality, and all at the hands of capitalist ideology, rammed home by the British Establishment, reacting badly to the assassination of David Cameron.
The story follows a window-cleaner who is blackmailed by a ruthless media-mogul into implicating the wrong person as being responsible for a fatal work-place accident. It is about the moral struggle, the suppression of a left-wing opposition to right-wing propaganda and about the indispensable nature of left-wing opposition in a society that is so utterly in love with capitalism.
So...there it is. It's out there, on Amazon. £0.99p on kindle. And in post-Brexit Britain, I personally feel that it is equally as relevant now. After all, until 2020, the country just voted to hand ultimate control over to a bunch of self-interested millionaires who operate with the total backing of a seriously dubious media-machine.
Go grab yourself a copy. And for anyone who might want to criticise me for profiting from a story that criticises capitalism, then take comfort from knowing that I set the price at the lowest possible setting in my kindle self-publishing account.
